Dr. Winston has a solo practice with two locations: Dunwoody, Georgia and Marietta, Georgia. He is also affiliated with Ridgeview Institute (a psychiatric hospital) and Wellstar (a large hospital system). Dr. Winston is also an assistant professor at Mercer University’s Physician’s Assistant Program, Atlanta, Georgia.

It transports me back in time to my great experiences as a medical student at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and as a resident at UW Hospital and Clinics in Madison.”
Dr. Winston typically handles complex cases of bipolar disorder that have co-morbid psychosis, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and addictive components, as well as co-morbid medical complexities. He is fascinated by the way biology affects our personalities, and derives satisfaction when able to change patients’ lives through the use of the latest psychiatric medications and psychotherapy. Dr. Winston first became interested in psychiatry during his second year of medical school after a key lecture by Dr. Carl Whitaker. Dr. Whitaker was one of the main pioneering forces in family experiential psychotherapy. Dr. Whitaker taught his students to use their instincts and personality in the process of psychotherapeutic relationships with patients.
“Recently, I treated a 31-year-old female with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. In my outpatient practice, I treated her bipolar psychosis with two bipolar medications, along with an atypical ADHD medication that quieted her brain and physical pain just in time to enjoy Christmas with her family.”
Dr. Winston is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and currently lives in the Greater Atlanta area with his wife and two boys. His daughter is currently a nurse at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He has three brothers; Jim Winston, MD, Jay Winston, DO, and Joel Winston, LCSW, who followed him into psychiatry and have a practice together in Milwaukee.
